Sheridan College - Degree Breadth Elective
In this unit, we will explore the terrible conflict of World War I. The scale of destruction which the war wrought made it the most destructive conflict that humans had ever waged. Over 10 million soldiers were killed and 20 million crippled. The war introduced the world to a new type of fighting – trench warfare in which both sides dug in for a prolonged conflict that lasted four years. New technology of fighting made scale of the conflict even worse. The war witnessed the first widespread use of the machine gun, poison gas, tanks, airplanes and submarines.
