Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, is a fertile agricultural area with abundant land and water. Yet until recently small-scale farmers were making so little money, they were considering selling their land and giving up farming. Families were hungry and couldn't afford school tuition. An FAO project has shown how investment in extension services, seeds, fertilizer and other technologies can turn the situation around and be a simple solution to hunger.
