MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) A Mobile man is begging for the city to help him sleep.
At Tuesday's city council meeting, Nikklos Kidd said music from a night club a couple blocks from his home keeps him up at all hours of the night.
The complaints revolve around Club Larock. It's tiny venue that sits on Duval Street.
The city attorney said he's working with Mobile Police to determine if the noise levels are indeed a public nuisance.
Kidd said he hasn't had a good night sleep since December when he first started calling police to complain about Club Larock.
"Let's say you go to bed at 9:30 or 10 and like everybody does you make that restroom pass in the middle of the night. You're not going back to sleep. And this is going on from early in the night to, well, the police records will show where I've called to 4 o'clock in the morning. Even this morning it was 3:42 and you could still very clearly hear that vibration, that music coming through the walls in my house," said Kidd.
According to Club Larock's Facebook page, it features exotic dancers.
For Kidd, it's not the type of entertainment that bothers him. It's the overpowering bass that he says he can hear from his home two blocks away on Cherokee Street.
"It's the thumping. It's that low vibration music that you hear when sitting at a red light. You're looking around figuring out where it's coming from," said Kidd.
Mobile Police said they've responded to noise complaints at Larock 10 times in the past three months.
"Each time our officers have been called out, they've done the measurements and responded to complaints properly. But their measuring noise has been within the cap of the ordinance so there have been no violations at this point," said city attorney Ricardo Woods.
Woods said if ambient noise exceeds 85 decibels, a business is in violation.
Now he's working with police to determine whether bass levels are being measured by the meters police use.
"I invite Chief James Barber and Mayor Stimpson, to come and stand in my bedroom so they can hear what I'm hearing, literally," said Kidd.
No one was at Club Larock when Local 15's crew went there to speak with the owner about the issue.
