This McCartney song was recorded on October 1+2 1968 for the White Album. Paul played piano, Ringo on brushes, George on Fender Bass VI, and John on lead guitar
There are more guitars in this song than I had realized. John plays both main guitar parts, which includes the Django Reinhardt-esque solo in the middle
But listening to the isolated tracks, there are some other guitars sprinkled throughout. One is an acoustic guitar part during the first verse, played by either Paul or John. And another electric part during the bridges, playing two-note chords
Photos from the recording sessions show Paul playing his Epiphone Texan acoustic, and John on both his Epiphone Casino and Gibson J160e acoustic. The song was recorded at Trident Studios in London, as opposed to Abbey Road
John most likely used his Fender Blackface Deluxe amp for the electric guitar. He rolled back his tone knob on his Casino, a technique he also used on Get Back and I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Here are some quirky parts of note:
0:34 the second electric guitar doubles up the E note before the verse
0:41 the mysterious acoustic guitar enters
1:03 the third electric guitar enters for the bridge (bottom of screen)
1:22 John's Eb7 chord accidentally contains the high open E string, making it an Eb7 flat 9 chord, as heard on I Want To Tell You and I Want You
1:41 this high up phrase in the solo was cut from the stereo version
For the two main electrics I'm using my Epiphone Casino into a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue amp, on the normal channel. For the third electric that appears during the bridge, I also mic'd up the Casino to pick up some of the acoustic strumming from the guitar. You can hear some acoustic bleed on some guitar tracks
I'm using my 1956 Gibson J-45 as the acoustic that is heard during the first verse. It's similar to the J-160e that they would've used but does not have electronics
