Western Baltija Shipbuilding (WBS) has built and partially outfitted the scientific research vessel built on order from a company based in the Faroe Islands. This is the second research vessel built with a substantial contribution from WBS over the past ten years.
Built on order from the Faroe government, the vessel shall be used for fisheries and oceanic explorations. It was subject to very high noise emission requirements (Silent-R). A lot of effort was made to achieve that level: all of the vessel’s machinery is installed on anti-vibration pads, and the engine section is soundproofed. The vessel, which had been built in Klaipėda and has ice class C, has been shipped to the Faroe Islands for final installation.
Western Baltija Shipbuilding is one of the 20 subsidiaries of Western Shipyard, its controlling stock owned by BLRT Grupp, an Estonian corporation. BLRT Grupp companies in Lithuania employ around 2,000 people, its total workforce standing at nearly 4,000 employees.
