Tina, Cord, and Megan prepare for Viki’s welcome home party. Tina is anxious about what state her sister will be in upon her imminent return. Bo wakes up on the couch, still holding a roadmap he’s been using to try and track down Sarah. He tells Alex he thinks the sleepless nights are paying off because he thinks he knows where Sarah is. Bo tells Alex about a call he had with Megan where she filled him in on Jake’s discoveries of the previous day. He shows her on the map that there’s another Middletown, in Virginia–a two hour drive from Llanview, which jives with Charlotte’s estimate of how far away Carlo was. Charlotte knocks on Jake’s door, waking him up. The pair are about to have breakfast when Carlo appears in the doorway looking for Charlotte. Jake invites Carlo to stay for breakfast, and Carlo accepts. Before Jake can call room service to add Carlo’s order, Alex calls to tell Jake that Bo needs to see him as soon as possible. Jake tells Carlo and Charlotte that he has a dentist’s appointment that he completely forgot about, so he’ll have to skip breakfast. Asa and Renee arrive at the welcome home party, and Kim brings Jessica (now played by Erin Torpey), Joey (now played by Chris McKenna), and Kevin (now played by Matthew Vipond). Moments later, Clint wheels Viki into the living room; she is silent, her face expressionless, and it’s not clear whether she hears or understands everything that’s said or is going on. Regardless, the children are happy to see her. Kevin (who is now nearly as tall as Clint) explains she has trouble understanding when everyone talks at once, but that she knows how happy everyone is that she is home. As Jessica talks to her, we can hear Viki’s inner voice recognizing her daughter, but we also hear the distorted way she perceives her family’s overlapping voices. Clint and Kevin tell Tina and Cord that Viki is still mostly paralyzed and can’t walk or talk yet, but Kevin is confident her improvement will continue. Asa is disappointed in her progress. Clint says he’s made arrangements for Sheila Price to keep working with her.
In Sweetwater, Texas, Gabrielle speaks to DuAnn Demerest (Avril Gentles), the local midwife. Gabrielle asks about Patricia Holden, whom DuAnn says wasn’t well liked around there. DuAnn says she herself is a religious woman and hints that her distaste for Patricia stems from that, but she says she won’t speak ill of the dead and thus declines to elaborate. Gabrielle pushes her on why Patricia was so widely disliked. Gabrielle changes tacks and asks whether DuAnn ever knew a man named Asa Buchanan. DuAnn asks who Gabrielle really is and just how she’s tied the Holdens and the Buchanans together. She relents and tells Gabrielle that many years ago she delivered a child, born out of wedlock, and Asa Buchanan was the father. Carlo tells Charlotte he’s disappointed that she didn’t follow his orders to stay in the room alone yesterday to keep up the fake party ruse. Viki recognizes Bo but wonders where Sarah is. Tina is upset by Viki’s condition. Viki accidentally knocks over a vase when trying to touch the flowers, and she is visibly upset by her own lack of dexterity. Clint tells her it’s OK and wheels her out to the garden to calm her down. Bo asks Megan to come back to his house so they can discuss the search for Sarah. Renee asks Tina if she’s seen any more of Johnny since he showed up there unexpectedly yesterday. Tina says she hasn’t, but she is still struggling to figure out how to get a blood sample from Cord to the doctor in Pine Valley. At Bo’s house, Megan tells Bo and Alex about her and Jakes plan to stage a breakup so Jake can ingratiate himself to Charlotte in hopes of getting information about Sarah’s whereabouts. Alex wonders whether Jake is truly acting like he and Charlotte are an item or if he might truly have switched sides, but Bo reassures her there’s no one he would trust with his or his wife’s life on the line more than Jake Harrison. After Jake arrives, Bo and Alex fill him in on their new theory. Bo tells Jake to keep working the Charlotte angle, while he and Alex pose as a house-hunting couple in Middletown, VA. Tina, clearly shaken by her sister’s condition, convinces Cord they need to think about getting disability insurance (presumably as a half-baked pretext for getting Cord’s blood sample) in case they are ever in a similar situation. Viki is soothed by Clint’s kindness and by the smell and sight of the flowers in her garden, but she wonders whether they know that she can smell the flowers and hopes her family won’t give up on her. She resolves herself to use her family’s love to pull herself back from the brink. She internally vows that Victoria Lord Buchanan will not be forgotten and will be coming back.
