In this video, I give a general overview of what Anglicans believe about the Eucharist. We believe in "effectual signification"--that the bread and the wine truly deliver, by the work of the Holy Spirit, the body and blood of Jesus Christ to all who receive it by faith. Through receiving the real body and blood in the bread and the wine by faith, one becomes more perfectly engrafted into Christ, and partakes more fully of the fruits of Christ's passion. To call the Eucharist a "sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving", then, means that it's a sacrifice that makes available to the receiver the occasion and object of our praise and thanksgiving: the true body and blood of Christ. I show from the Anglican divines that this isn't a new "post-tractarian" or even particularly high-church claim, but the historic claim of Anglican theology. I hope this is a blessing to you!
If you feel led to support my channel, please pray for me! Consider also becoming a patron; I will have more content for patrons (e.g. specific classes on Anglican theology, book reading groups, and other things) built out shortly as well :)
