French and Polish troops and equipment arrived in Fredrikstad, Norway on March 10, 2022, as part of NATO's long-planned Exercise Brilliant Jump 22. Allied troops are arriving as part of the NATO Response Force’s High Readiness Element in Norway in support of the rapid deployment and mobility exercise in the challenging conditions of the host nation. The arrival was supported by Norwegian security forces. The joint and multinational nature of NATO training and deployments demonstrates our determination and ability to act as one unified force in response to any threat. __
Allied Command Operations (ACO), NATO's headquarters for all military plans and operations, is the successor to two historic strategic commands for NATO – Allied Command Europe and Allied Command Atlantic.
ACO is one of The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (NATO) two strategic military commands. The other command being Allied Command Transformation ACT in Norfolk, Virginia.
ACO is commanded by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and is responsible for all Alliance military operations. The command headquarters, known as Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, or SHAPE, is located in Casteau near Mons, Belgium. The mission of ACO and the SACEUR is to contribute to preserving the peace, security and territorial integrity of NATO member nations in its area of responsibility.
