(The Odeon of Herodes Atticus)
•It is a theatre located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece.
•It was built in 161 AD by the Greek Herodes Atticus in memory of his Roman wife.
•It has a three-story stone front wall and was used as a venue for music concerts with a capacity of 5,000.
•In 267 AD ,it was destroyed and left in ruins by the Heruli (they were an early Germanic people , possibly originating in Scandinavia).
•The theatre was renovated in 1950 , the audience seats and the stage were restored using pentelic marble.
•Since it was renovated it has been the main venue of the Athens Festival, which runs from May through October each year.
•Pausanias the famous Greek traveler said about the Odeon of Herodes Atticus that “it is the finest building of its type”.
