Derailment or NMRA standards scale model weight. The most H0 scale freight cars I have, have a recommended NMRA weight between the 100-170 grams. That’s because you don’t want a derailment. Specially not in the tunnels. So, I have a list, where you can calculate length of each freight car to recommended NMRA weight. You can find that list on my website “www.ronaldshobby.com”. I did a test to put that extra weight out. Better for your locomotives. But you see, I had a derailment. With a curve radius of 90cm/35”, climbing 2.1% is maximum you want to go. Better below the 2%. But I didn’t had that extra length for less steeper slope. Because I had to climb to 11.2cm/4.4”. So, I creat all my freight cars for that extra NMRA weight. But also all metal wheels. Kadee couplers. For more quality running freight cars.
