Every one handed poi trick involves gripping two poi in one hand. We refer to them as the thumb end poi and the pinkie end poi regardless of the grip actually used. My preferred grip is to hold the thumb end poi between my thumb and index fingers while I hold the pinkie end poi between in ring and pinkie fingers.

The pinkie end poi will remain on a horizontal plane for the entire move while the thumb end poi is performing a 2-beat weave. To begin to learn this trick, grab the pinkie end poi with your other hand and perform a 2-beat weave with the hand holding the 2 poi. As you perform the weave, allow the pinkie end poi to bounce back and forth to the hip opposite the side of the body that the hand holding the poi is on.

Release the pinkie end poi and see if you can get it to bounce back and forth from hip to hip without assistance. One trick that's likely to help, make sure the pinkie end poi is always at the opposite hip as the hand holding it and that when it touches that hip the tether is drawn tight across the waist like a belt.
