Toronto Mayor John Tory, joined by Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s medical officer of health, and Matthew Pegg, fire chief and general manager of emergency management for the City of Toronto, provided their daily coronavirus briefing on the city's response to the pandemic on Wednesday.
Tory announced that the city had launched an online portal called DonateTO - COVID-19 for people who want to help fight the pandemic.
He said that this portal will ensure city officials get donations where they’re needed the most.
Tory added that the city’s public health department is visiting essential businesses that have been allowed to remain open, in order to provide them with advice and instructions on physical distancing, cleaning and disinfecting.
Dr. Eileen de Villa announced that as of Wednesday, there were a total of 2,670 cases of COVID-19 in the city.
The number includes 2,369 confirmed cases and 301 probable cases.
She also said there were 41 outbreaks of COVID-19 in long term care facilities in Toronto as of April 15.
