Many people think that if they are generally moral human beings, they will be okay with God in the end. This view fails to take into account the absolute majesty of God, and the worship He deserves from His creatures (not to mention the honor due His Son). Spurgeon put it this way:
-
"Ah! it is a solemn thing to make light of Christ. Despise a prince, and ye shall have little honour at the king’s hand for it; but despise the Son of God, and the Father will have vengeance on you for His slighted Son." - C.H.S.
-
Yet even the great sin of making light of the things of God (of which we are all guilty) was carried by Jesus to the cross, where He (although He was guiltless) endured His Father's vengeance in our place. Now, full pardon is given to all who trust in Him!

I chose to use photos of a young Charles Spurgeon because he was just 22 years old when he preached these words in 1856. Listen to the full sermon, 'Making Light of Christ', at HearSpurgeon.com/98

*I update some of the older language of Spurgeon's sermons in order to (I hope) enhance listenability. The words displayed onscreen reflect the original unaltered manuscript, which is why there are some small differences between what you see and hear.
