The perfect warm, autumn drink. Adjust the spices to make it as strong as you like.
RECIPE
1 1/4 cup water
1-2 cinnamon sticks
1 star anise
2-4 cloves
2 black peppercorns
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground allspice
1/2 Tbsp. loose leaf black tea (you could also use a tea bag)
1/2 cup almond milk
1 Tbsp. agave nectar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Add water to a small pot, and put on the stovetop over high heat. Add a stick of cinnamon, star anise, cloves, pepper, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, and ground allspice. Whisk everything together. Bring to a boil, and let boil about a minute. Pour into a small pitcher or glass. Add tea, mix in, and let it steep about 3-6 minutes. (the longer it steeps, the stronger the chai tea will be) Return the empty pot to the stove over medium heat, and add almond milk. Heat, whisking occasionally. Add agave, and whisk in. Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla. Strain the steeped tea into a mug, and add the milk mixture. Top with vegan whipped cream if desired. Serves one.
