INGREDIENTS
• 2 1½ teaspoons active dry yeast
• 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1¼ cup white sugar

Directions
Step 1
In a large glass or plastic container, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Stir in the flour and sugar, mix until smooth. (DO NOT USE A METAL SPOON)! Cover loosely and store in a warm place overnight.
Step 2
The next day, stir and refrigerate.
Step 3
Stir once each day for the next four days. On the fifth day, stir, then divide in half. Give half away with feeding instructions.
Step 4
Feed starter with 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 cup flour, and 1 cup milk. Stir until smooth. Cover and place in refrigerator. Stir once each day for next four days.
Step 5
On the tenth day feed again with 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 cup flour, and 1 cup milk. Return to refrigerator and stir once each day for the next four days.
Step 6
On the fifteenth day it is ready to be used for baking. Reserve one cup of the starter in the refrigerator and continue to follow the stir and feed cycle (Stir once a day for four days, stir and feed on the fifth day, ready for use on the tenth day.)

Amish Friendship Bread Starter
If you haven't received a bag of Amish Friendship Bread starter but would like to make the bread, this is the recipe for starting your starter.
Ingredients
1 (0.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 cup milk
Directions
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Let stand 10 minutes. In a 2 quart glass, plastic or ceramic container, combine 1 cup flour and 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is added. Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Cover loosely and let stand at room temperature until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle. For the next 10 days handle starter according to the instructions for Amish Friendship Bread.
Amish Friendship BREAD /CAKE
Do not refrigerate the starter. The starter will rise and ferment-this is normal, release excess air from the bag and reseal.
Day 1: Do nothing
Days 2-5: Squeeze bag once daily to mix.
Day 6: Add to bag 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup of milk. Squeeze to mix.
Days 7-9: Squeeze bag once daily to mix.
Day 10: Follow directions below to feed, divide and bake.
Pour starter into a nonmetal bowl
•Add 1.5 cups flour, 1.5 cups sugar, and 1.5 cups milk. Mix well.
Reserve 1 cup of starter to bake with. Divide remaining starter into 3 ziplock bags to gift along with printable instructions and recipe. Label bags with date (this is their new day 1.)
Do not gift in a mason jar with metal lid, rather put gallon bag into jar for prettier gifting. The metal lid will deactivate the fermentation,

1 cup starter
1/2 cup sugar 1.5teaspoons ground cinnamon for dusting the pan
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 large box instant vanilla pudding
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
2. Grease two large bread pans. Mix 1/2 cup of sugar and 11/2 teaspoons cinnamon and dust greased pans with mixture. Tap out extra sugar mixture into a bowl and set aside.
3. Mix remaining ingredients in large bowl until smooth. Pour evenly in the two pans and top with remaining cinnamon sugar mixture.
4. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until golden brown and toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
5. Cool ten minutes before removing from pan.
Kitchen Notes
The starter should be left at room temperature. Drape loosely with dish towel or plastic wrap. Do not use metal utensils or bowls. If using a sealed Ziploc bag, be sure to let the air out if the bag gets too puffy.
