Sometimes it's just not possible to get a model to sit for you in your studio. How can you select the best photo references to work from, and what special challenges will you need to tackle?
This 5–day workshop focuses on creating a painted portrait using a photo reference. Participants learn the key principles of working from photos, including how to select good photo references, what to keep and what to leave out, and how to overcome the issues that working from a photo can present. The workshop will also cover all the principles of portraiture, such as value, proportion, composition, colour theory, and the process of “finishing.” Students of all levels are welcome.
