September 19, 2012. Shanghai, China. The team behind Shanghai Tower faced a number of unique structural challenges which required innovative solutions in the design and construction of the 632m-tall tower. In this presentation we learn of some of these challenges and solutions, including a "Core-Outrigger-Mega Frame" lateral system used to meet Chinese code requirements, and an effective tower crown design which incorporates features for construction efficiency while providing multiple load paths.
