There is not an AA truck to help, and there is certainly no spare tire within several million kilometers. His answer is the Shape Memory Allow Tire, a revolutionary new wheel that can not suffer a floor, can survive in incredibly challenging environments and can even be deformed before returning to its original position.

Now the team has been working on this for a long time, but to celebrate how far they have come, NASA interviewed the engineers behind the wheel to analyze how far they have come from the first prototypes that were being tested almost a decade ago. Memory Shape Allow Tire, is a revolutionary wheel design that is made of a chainmail complex metal fabric. The material that composes the springs is a stoichiometric nickel-titanium alloy that essentially gives it some remarkable properties. In essence, it allows the team to create an ensemble form that can absorb incredible forces and as it changes shape to absorb those forces, it will always return to its original form. Originally, the team had been working only with spring steel that, although useful as a reference point, suffered deformations over time. Having solved the problem of deformation of the tire under incredible efforts, the team began to test their new invention. This included testing it under conditions similar to those of Mars along with the wheels that are currently in the Curiosity rover.
