Ease into a restful night's sleep tonight with the comfort of Jesus, our good Shepherd with this 10 minute Christian meditation, based on Psalm 23. Hand over your burdens and worries and relax into his loving, protective care.
Welcome to this peaceful, calming time to end your day. Here you can release your concerns, plans, and burdens as you turn to rest in the loving arms of God. You are safe here. This place, this time, is just for you--a place for you to be completely at peace, allowing your heavenly Father to provide for your every need.
Make yourself physically comfortable, adjusting your position so that you can melt into the surface beneath you. Close your eyes and feel the muscles in your body release, allowing the bed to fully support you. As you release tension and your need for control, also surrender the emotional burdens and worries of the day to God, perhaps visualizing physically handing these concerns over to Him.
Take a deep breath in and notice the sensations in your face, head, and neck. Observe the temperature of the air as it touches your skin. Notice anything else you might feel--an area of tension, the blanket against your neck, or a stray hair brushing your forehead or cheek. Continue to breathe and observe. On your next outbreath, slowly exhale, relaxing your head and neck into the surface beneath you. Next, breathe in and observe the sensations in your shoulders, arms, and hands. Exhale and release any tension in these areas. Shift your focus now to your chest, belly, and back, observing, without judgment, what you feel. Again, on your next out breath, release any tension, feeling your body become heavier and sinking more and more into the surface beneath you. Finally, observe your hips, legs, and feet, first taking in any sensations and, when you are ready, exhaling and releasing this tension.
Now that you are fully relaxed, imagine that you are standing in a lush, green field bordered by a tranquil lake. Immerse yourself in the scene, visualizing the brilliant green of the grass and the soft ripples on the surface of the lake. Feel the grass tickle your bare feet and smell the sweetness of the spring air. Breathe in slowly and deeply and continue to observe your surroundings with all of your senses.
You feel safe and comforted here and wonder the reason for your being here. Your gaze shifts upwards a bit and you see Jesus standing before you. His expression is soft and gentle, yet you feel power, strength, and goodness emanating from him. Jesus has created this place just for you. In his presence, you are at peace. Jesus’ strength comforts you--you can rest here in his presence, free of your Earthly cares, knowing that you have your good shepherd watching over you in this specially prepared place of restoration.
Look into Jesus’ eyes. Feel his love flowing over and through you, his protective strength enveloping you. Allow Jesus to speak words of love, protection, and encouragement over you.
Tonight, rest with the deep conviction that nothing can separate you from the unconditional love and protection of your Lord and shepherd. Thank you for meditating with me tonight.
