The Kia Picanto is a brand new arrival to the micro car segment. It’s only available in a single specification and on the road it feels quite mature for it’s size.
The Picanto is quite an adorable looking micro car and it’s priced at $14,990 drive away.
Your only option is this, one specification with an automatic transmission. It’s a little smaller in its dimensions than some of it’s rivals and comes in this interesting shade of yellow called Honey Bee.
There’s no touchscreen in here – it’s pretty basic, you get Blueetooth phone and audio connectivity, and something you don’t often find in cars this size – rear parking sensors. Not that this is particularly hard to park.
There is no cruise control, even as an option, either. But it has a few nice finishes, the cabin doesn’t have a no frills feel about it.
Not a lot of room in the back, head room and knee room are ok though I wouldn’t want to spend too much time back here.
There’s 200-litres of boot space, which is small even for a micro car – and there’s a space saver spare.
Under the bonnet is a 1.25-litre four cylinder engine and though it can feel a little slow to get going, once its on the move it’s a bit of fun.
Mat, who works here at CarAdvice and is in the usual buyer age range for this type of car, spent a weekend with it. So, what did he think?
Perhaps one of the Picanto’s strongest selling points is Kia’s seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty with seven years capped price servicing and seven years roadside assist - and it has a five star ANCAP rating.
No other brand can currently beat that, and besides… look at that face.
