If you've watched coverage of former President Donald Trump's indictment over the last week, you've likely heard the legal term "RICO." RICO is a more than 50-year-old federal law and stands for "Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act." It was initially designed to help bring down mob bosses. Adrian Carpenter-McKinney is a law professor at McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific. She says it's a misconception that RICO is primarily used to prosecute organized crime. In fact, one of Georgia's most famous RICO cases involved public school teachers and administrations in a school cheating scandal. KCRA 3's Deirdre Fitzpatrick talked with Carpenter-McKinney about what RICO can and can't do and what it could impact former President Donald Trump.
