From 1914 to today, The Gramophone Company (now Saregama) has had an unbroken tradition of Sharad Arghya, puja songs specially and exclusively selected and released to mark the Durga Puja festivities. Over the decades, the most outstanding musicians and singers have been proud to be invited to be part of this elite group — a real who's who of the music world in Bengal. Senior artistes, music composers and lyricists are nostalgic about the great gems of the past, and younger artistes join them in waxing sentimental about the widespread popularity this tradition has enjoyed. On a historic occasion, Dwijen Mukherjee, Mrinal Chakravarty, Sanat Sinha, Alpana Banerjee, Abhijit Banerjee, Biman Mukherjee, Haimanti Shukla, Srikanto Acharya, Indrani Sen, Srikumar Chatterjee and many other eminent artistes, young and senior, gathered to reminisce, demonstrate, perform and talk of this venerable tradition at the historic studios @ Dum Dum, which has seen so many magical recording sessions. This wonderful trip down memory lane is captured here for all time. Compered by Suvo Dasgupta.
