Here we arrive at one of the usual moronic missions of any Sandlot EDF game. This one is just more pointless than usual.
The brilliant idea is always the same. Throw a lot of overpowered enemies that can one shot you, and provide for help a skimpy and incompetent bunch of NPCs, including 2 Bargas which most of the time are even crushed in the first wave of enemies.
Sadly this comes down to 99% luck. The only glimpses of strategy you can use are:
- damage to the crappy Siren is what will make the Arkelus waves come, so try to get rid of all Arkelus on the map before hitting Siren again; yes NPC will hit Siren too and can trigger the next wave
- once the third Arkelus wave comes, get rid of Siren ASAP
Yes, you can get all Arkelus in a row, all 11 (2+3+6).
What can you do to overcome this stupid RNG bore? Not much. Your best bet is to try to make the Bargas last as much as possible. When these die the mission is usually over, unless you were lucky and the few remaining Arkelus are almost dead. So you have to take a lot of risks and try to handle yourself individual Arkelus, preferably far from the Bargas. Of course, guess what, luck dependent. Surprising...
Arkelus are extremely unreliable. They can hit you from almost the other side of the map, and yes, all at the same time. They can do huge damage, with one of their attacks doing 30k+ at once. Siren can hit you from the back and easily one-shot you.
The theory that you can frighten Arkelus and that he won't attack it's just that, a theory. Another one of those laughable "urban myths" that you can read a lot in EDF information. In practice, rarely it works.
And Siren just does what it wants and it's just luck if it doesn't massacre you or NPCs. And nothing you can do with her.
The weapons I used were the level 112 Planet Blazer, the 107 Buster Shot, the 107 Himeta Thermite Bullets and for the vehicle the 112 KG7 Bols B.
The Planet Blazer does not get much use.
The Buster Shot is still Ranger's highest damage weapon considering reload and ease of use, and that by miles. It has a short range, but no damage falloff, and a reasonable reload time. But 277k of possible damage per magazine is extraordinary.
The Himeta Thermite Bullets is a portable Vesta for Ranger. How surprising that Ranger has another weapon copying Air Raider... It's not an exceptional weapon, but it's easy to use, works well against big enemies, does some damage over time, and has an acceptable reload time. It can also be used without causing too much damage to the Bargas, which is essential here.
KG7 Bols B is a sort of decent machine gun type small vehicle. Not great durability but can do decent damage, 396k using all the bullets (how the hell some genius wrote on the jp wiki that you can do this mission with this vehicle alone is laughable, each Arkelus has more than 1 million armor you could only kill one with 3 vehicles if you landed all the shots). At least it prevents you from dying all the time with the smallest thing happening on the map. Movement is acceptable, but the map here is dreadful. You can get stuck on the stupid rubble, and worse there are the lake areas where you can get stuck and it's almost impossible to get out.
Try to use Buster Shot, Thermite Bullets and KG7 as much as possible. Try to get an Arkelus at a time, and if you're lucky and he mostly stays in the same place and you can massacre it, it will help a lot. If another Arkelus or siren homes on you it's usually game over. I never managed to finish this mission with any NPCs alive.
Do expect to get 1 successful run out of more than 100. That is an awesome success rate with low armor.
I must finish again by stating how, sadly, the EDF 6 missions suggested loadouts and strategies on the JP wiki are so unbelievably bad and laughable. If for 4.1 there were smart suggestions and strategies for many missions, for 5 things started to go berserk, and on 6 it's unbelievably bad. All the ones suggested for this mission they must have worked for those players only, because I can't see them working without all Arkelus sitting on the map border waiting for you to hit them, and without them hitting you. It's sad. This mission is 99% luck anyway, maybe those people are unbelievably lucky. The people on the jp wiki are part of Sandlot's drooling mob, so for them, everything is awesome.
What is annoying is that Sandlot could try to do awesome missions with these overwhelming monsters but instead always provides missions with almost 0 strategy and almost only dependent on stupid luck. It starts with how stupid are the monsters themselves. At least they could have provided a slightly better NPC help like on EDF 5's mission 100, which even there was skimpy as hell and with luck too being the major factor in success.
I have 0 confidence that they will learn, and yes, more stupid boredom will be present on the next titles.
Not fun at all, just a waste of time,
