Episode 004 - How to fit 35s on a Lexus GX470!
Welcome to Two Track Nation! In this episode, we are going to have a quick discussion and overview of what Chase had to go through to adequately fit 35s. We aren't talking about driving in straight lines here, but to achieve minimal rubbing during flexed out scenarios. There's a lot of confusion and curiosity out there from a many people, so hopefully this can answer a lot of your questions and help inform you of the type of modifications you'll need to do.
Some things not mentioned in this video:
- This GX has about a 3" lift in the front, and 4" lift in the rear
- Do not attempt this size tire/wheel offset without a similar lift unless you plan to drive in straight lines mostly
- 35s require an 8.2 rear end upgrade at minimum or the understanding that you’re walking on glass with the 8.0. Re-gearing should be done around this time but isn’t NECESSARY, though you should know you’ll be getting around 10mpg or less, hunting on the highway and going up the smallest hills for overdrive.
Chase's GX470 Wheel/Suspension Specs:
- Toyo Open Country M/T 35x12.5/17
- Alpha Equipt Wheels 17x10 -25 offset
- Dobinson MRA shocks/Long Travel Rear
- Dobinson 730lb/in Front Springs (c59-352)
- Dobinson +800lb progressive springs in the rear, on top of 8.2 axle with a 1" perch lift (PN c59-749v)
- Dobinson rear adjustable panhard, upper and lower links, however, all footage in this video was on stock rear links.
There's a number of good wheel offset calculators out there, here's one of them. This will help you determine the change in wheel/tire position and determine what type of clearance will be needed.
