Acne scars are basically of two types. One is just the pigmentation left by the acne and one is the scar by the uneven skin texture in that area, the pigmentation part is called as PIH in medical terms. It can be removed in topical creams and sometimes, chemical peels and laser also. Topical creams like kojic acid, hydroquinone can be used at home to take away the marks and in clinic procedures like glycolic peels or the Q switched Nd: YAG laser can work on those black marks to fade away and second part of the acne scars is uneven skin texture because of the fibrous band formed below the skin. It is very difficult to correct with normal creams or any ointments. It has to be tackled with some procedures like derma rollers or micro needle RF or erbium glass laser and different treatments like that to make the skin less scarred. However nothing can make it normal. But overall the depth of the scars and the visibility of the scars will come down a lot with all these modality of treatments.
