I've been itching to try out this poetic Finnish song while my lyre's been out of action. Yesterday evening I finally got it restrung so was able to have a go.
I based it on a version by the Finnish metal band Amorphis (acoustic version here: [ Ссылка ]) but it's translated from an old song 'Eriskummainen Kantele' collected in the 1800s. A Kantele is a folk instrument like a zither, and in the ancient Finnish Kalevala one was made by Väinämöinen from the jawbone of a giant pike because he had no wood or tools.
Recorded on my phone as I can't find my proper mike.
