This morning, with the temperature hovering at around 10 degrees Fahrenheit and the winds whipping to 22Knots, I flew my Mavic 2 Pro Drone out over Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough, New Hampshire to check out the forming ice conditions. Specifically I was flying from the shoreline about three quarters of a mile northwest of the Long Island Bridge.

As can be seen in this video a crust of thin ice that formed further out on the lake overnight is being pushed easterly into the bay and forming a break line between open water and ice, as the strong westerly winds push the white capped waves over the ice and crack it.

If the temperatures remain below freezing for the next few days, which they are forecasted to do so, when the winds die down, I expect this particular bay area to freeze up nicely. However, as can be seen further out, in the direction of the broads, more than just a few days of freezing temperatures are going to be required to really enable that open water to begin to freeze up solid.

So in the meantime, we will just have to wait and watch the beauty of nature takes its own time and course to freeze the lake.
