Unboxing and hands-on review with the Sphero RVR, a new 'hackable' robot which is designed to teach kids to code. While the Bolt, Mini and other Sphero bots are aimed at young kids, the RVR caters for teens who want more of a challenge. There's full support for Raspberry Pi, Micro:bit, Little:Bits and other coding devices too, so you can really expand the robot's potential and add all kinds of accessories and additional sensors.
The Sphero RVR boasts a full range of sensors to play around with, including the standard accelerometer and gyroscope, a colour sensor and an ambient light sensor. There's also Infrared support to communicate with other devices like the Bolt. And of course using Raspberry Pi and Microbit you can expand that functionality in a simple plug-and-play fashion.
This coding bot is available right now from Amazon and direct from Sphero for £250, or if you’re an educational body you can pick up a five-pack of RVR robots for £999.
