A barricaded gunman has surrendered to authorities, ending an hours-long SWAT standoff in southwest Atlanta.

A SWAT team was called to a home in the 300 block of Saint Johns Avenue where authorities said a man in his 20's was refusing to surrender. The standoff stemmed from an altercation between the suspect and his father.

Police said a man called 911 around 9:30 a.m. Thursday and reported some type of fight with his son. The older man called police after leaving the Saint Johns Avenue home, where his son barricaded inside.

Authorities negotiated with the suspect, who police said was armed.
Atlanta Police told FOX 5's Portia Bruner they had constant communication with the suspect and worked to safely get him out of the house to prevent anyone from being injured.
The man surrendered peacefully shortly before 2 p.m.

A line of police cars stretched down the road for about a quarter of a mile for several hours Thursday. One man who lives near the area told FOX 5 police told him to stay in his home but he left because he was scared of the police activity.
Atlanta Police told Portia Bruner they have had constant communication with the suspect and are working to safely get him out of the house to prevent anyone from being injured.
The older man who called 911 didn't suffer any serious injuries, according to police.
