Starlings swooping and diving in tandem together in their hundreds or thousands is known as a murmuration. During autumn, more and more birds join the flock, soaring together at dusk for protection. Brighton’s derelict West Pier is one of the best-known places in the UK to see starlings in huge numbers – tens of thousands of birds arrive from across Europe and fly as the sun sets over the horizon, moulding and shifting into different formations.
Cameraman Sim Warren was filming on the Brighton seafront with his toddler son and happened to accidently witness this spectacle. He said, ‘I’ve spent 10 years searching for starlings and observing them do their thing and, in my eyes, there’s never been a display quite like this one.’ Subscribe to Condé Nast Traveller ►► [ Ссылка ]
