Free beginner sewing and repair workshops 2023
Learn how to sew on a button, hem and repair a hole. Running from March to June across the city.

City of Sydney residents can choose from 1 of 12 free beginner sewing workshops in March, April and June.
You'll learn easy hand sewing techniques to repair your favourite clothes, including how to:
• sew on a button
• fix a hole with visible mending
• hem a garment.
The experienced teachers from Sew Make Create will guide you through the mending process. All tools and materials are provided, and you’ll receive a small sewing kit to take home for future repairs.
You must live in the City of Sydney to participate and proof of address is required. Check this map to see if you're eligible.
Over 2 hours, teachers from Sew Make Create will show you how to repair the most common problems with well-loved clothes.

1.Zetland workshops
Tote Building, Monday 27 March, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Bookings essential.
2.Redfern workshops
Redfern Town Hall on Monday 3 April, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Bookings essential.
3.Glebe workshops
St Helen’s Community Centre, Saturday 17 June, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Bookings essential.
4.Millers Point workshops
Harry Jensen Centre, Monday 19 June, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Bookings essential.
5.Alexandria workshops
Cliff Noble Community Centre, Saturday 24 June, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Bookings essential.
6.Darlinghurst workshops
Darlinghurst Community Space on Monday 26 June, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Bookings essential.
Sew Make Create is the vision of fashion and accessory designer, Melissa Tan-Lu. She combines her love of eco-friendly design, handcrafting techniques and industry experience to create a collaborative space where makers, designers, artists, entrepreneurs and the community can meet.
At Sew Make Create you can:
• Learn a new skill or find a new hobby by attending a class
• Create and design in our open workshop
• Use our workshop machines and equipment or hire a sewing machine
• Shop for Janome sewing machines, overlockers and accessories
• Drop your sewing machine in for service or repair
• Give a cuddle to our friendly shop dog – Pepper
Sew Make Create is a workshop space in Sydney’s creative, inner-city suburb of Chippendale. We hold casual, creative classes and social events for children and adults. Customers are also welcome to use the space to work on their own personal projects or hire a sewing machine on an hourly basis. The workshop welcomes everyone to gather and work amongst others over a cup of tea or coffee and have a creative experience. Sew Make Create aims to encourage learning and creativity through providing the right environment, assistance and facilities.
To compliment our popular sewing classes we are an authorised Janome sewing machine dealer. We also offer machine servicing and repairs, and sewing machine hire.
