Surat/ Vadodara, Oct 15 (ANI): Around 71 women in Gujarat performed the traditional dance, Garba, with decorated pitchers on their heads and offered their prayers to Hindu Goddess during the ongoing festival of nine nights, Navratri. During Navratri, which began on October 13, majority of Hindus worship mother Goddess Durga in all her manifestations. Dressed in traditional attire, women holding lit pots and decorated pitchers on their heads gathered around a temple to worship Goddess 'Umiya Mata' in Surat city. 'Umiya,' derived from the word 'Uma,' means mother. The Goddess represents power. The deity is worshipped by the people of Kadwa Patidars community across the world. Meanwhile, hundred of excited gaggle of children played Garba in Vadodara city. An event was organised exclusively for children as they face difficulties in performing the traditional dance with adults.
