One of the few issues with bike-shares is that users very rarely use helmets. No one wants to carry a helmet around all day, and rental helmets can be unsanitary or ill-fitting. Yet in busy cities, crashes do occur, and wearing a helmet can reduce the chance of injury or death by 85%. So, how can you make bike-shares a safer and less stressful experience? Isis Shiffer thinks she has the solution with her EcoHelmet, the international winner of the 2016 James Dyson Award.
The EcoHelmet is an inexpensive foldable helmet that can be purchased onsite and recycled when the user is done riding. Constructed from a waterproofed recycled paper in a radial honeycomb pattern, EcoHelmet absorbs blows from any direction as effectively as traditional polystyrene. It folds flat for easy vending, and it fits most head sizes. Brought to you by Dyson and UPROXX.
