The final showdown between the "Macho Man" and "the King" at the Mid-South Coliseum, a loser-leaves-town bout with the AWA Southern heavyweight championship hanging in the balance. A month earlier, Vince McMahon had made Randy a generous offer that included a contract for his brother, "Leaping" Lanny Poffo. McMahon asked Randy if he would leave immediately without giving promoter Jerry Jarrett notice; however, Randy insisted on dropping the Southern title back to Lawler on his way, demonstrating "the time-honored tradition" McMahon claims Bret Hart was attempting to get away with. After dropping the Southern belt back to Lawler on 6.3.85, the Macho Man also did a clean job for area legend Tojo Yamamoto the next night in Louisville before moving on to bigger and better things.
