Temperatures this week are set to fall and will feel like -11C as Russian winds lash the whole of the UK and could bring more snow to the Isles. Cold weather will be driven by a rapid warming of air over the North Pole opening the floodgates to winds from the Russian Arctic.In the latest weather forecast maps the bone-chilling temperatures can be seen gripping the UK towards the end of this week, over the weekend and into the beginning of next week.WxCharts, who compile the forecast maps, wrote on Twitter: “Get ready NW Europe, #WinterIsComing!
“Decent agreement overall from all GEFS members - but still a fair bit of uncertainty over the precise timing and orientation of the #BeastFromTheEast over the weekend/early next week.”The Met Office also warned of “bitterly cold Russian air” covering Britain throughout the week. They add: “We may be edging that bit closer to the official start of Spring this week, but unfortunately the weather has different ideas! Temperatures will gradually be on the slide.”Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “Temperatures will drop off through this week partly due to a cold front coming in from the northwest but also because we will start to see easterly winds develop.

“From this weekend there is the potential for very cold conditions to develop with harsh frosts and a risk of significant snowfall particularly to the east.“Temperatures could feel much lower than they are because of windchill.“The most likely situation is that cold easterly winds will continue to affect our weather through the end of the month and into March.”BBC Weather wrote on their website: “Mainly dry on Wednesday with sunny spells in the north but cloudier further south. Windy for Scotland and Northern Ireland on Thursday with some rain possible. Mainly dry elsewhere. Feeling colder on Friday.”Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden also warned the next freezing snap could bring the heaviest snowfall of winter so far.He said: “Despite a mild start to Monday it will turn significantly colder for the rest of the week from Tuesday onwards as winds veer in from a much colder easterly direction.
“A small nudge downwards in temperatures could see this month challenging the coldest February on record.“Snow is likely to return during the final third of this month and into the early part of March to start the meteorological spring properly, this is likely to cause widespread disruption.”Bookmaker Coral has now cut odds on 2018 ending as the coldest year on record, to evens, with more bitter conditions forecast. “We might of seen some warmer weather over the weekend but with the forecast suggesting the icy conditions are just around the corner again we’re fully expecting this year to push the record books close,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
