When the Koenigsegg Gemera made its grand entrance in March 2020, it immediately captivated automotive enthusiasts with its groundbreaking powertrain and revolutionary design. The Swedish automaker unveiled a groundbreaking hybrid setup, featuring a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter three-cylinder engine and three electric motors, delivering a combined output of 1,700 horsepower and a mind-boggling 2,581 pound-feet of torque. And this 2.0 inline 3 engine is insane and I made a whole video on the engine and what makes it so special, so if that’s something you would like to know more on go and watch it after this.
But back to the video, Koenigsegg has recently announced another engine option for the Gemera, and this motor is insane.
So now you can get the Gemera with the TFG or a newly announced optional twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine, which is Koenigsegg's second engine option for the Gemera. This powerplant unleashes even more raw power, catapulting the Gemera's performance to unprecedented levels. When fueled by E85, the V8 powerplant with assistance from the electric motor generates a jaw-dropping 2,300 horsepower and 2,028 pound-feet (2,750 Newton-meters) of torque. Which is an unnecessary amount, I cant see the point in having so much power, but damn that performance must be other worldy. Now To experience this immense power, customers must be willing to invest an additional $400,000 over the base price of this four-seat supercar. And when a car already goes for 1.7 mill 400k for an engine seems like a lot. But luckily The V8 engine harmoniously connects to Koenigsegg's cutting-edge nine-speed Light Speed Transmission, Btw this gearbox is awesome, we also made a video on that.
Now the inclusion of the V8 engine is not the only enhancement Koenigsegg has made to the Gemera. The automaker has also replaced the original show car's cameras with traditional side mirrors. Which was necessary to comply with regulations in markets where camera-based side mirrors are not yet legal, including the United States.
But the upgrades don't end there. Koenigsegg now offers an optional Ghost Package for the Gemera, further enhancing its aerodynamic performance. This package adds an extended front splitter, an S-duct, a rear wing, and other carefully crafted aero tweaks. The modifications to the front end of the vehicle, however, mean that the Gemera no longer features storage space beneath the hood. So grocery runs might not be in the cards for the Gemera, some Sacrifices have to be made in the pursuit of ultimate performance.
To accommodate the production of this exceptional machine, Koenigsegg embarked on a significant factory expansion. The expansion includes a state-of-the-art assembly area, a luxurious customer lounge, an experience center, offices, event spaces, a showroom, retail areas, and additional warehouses.
Now we have been waiting for the Gemera for a while and Although the factory expansion is complete, eager customers will have to exercise patience and wait a little longer. As The first deliveries of the Gemera are estimated to begin in 2025.
But don’t worry, unlike with tesla Koenigsegg actually delivers on their promises. And In March 2022, Koenigsegg showcased the first drivable prototype of the Gemera. At that stage, the three-cylinder engine was limited to revving at around 4,500 rpm. However, in its final form, the engine is expected to reach a staggering 8,500 rpm, demonstrating the tremendous engineering prowess of Koenigsegg. No clue what the V8 will be capable of.
For actual performance The Gemera's performance figures are nothing short of astounding. Koenigsegg estimates that the three-cylinder variant can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in a mere 1.9 seconds, with a top speed of 249 mph. These blistering numbers are made possible by the Gemera's advanced features, including all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and torque vectoring. And that 1.9 sec 0-60 is with the smaller TFG engine, imagine what will be possible with the monster twin turbo V8, and over 2k HP.
