Finland occupies a precarious position on the edge of Europe. Bordered by Putin’s Russia to the east and EU member-state Sweden to the West, the Nordic country has long resisted calls to pick a side. But as war rages in Ukraine - another Russian neighbour that dared to defy Putin - the President and Prime Minister of Finland have said the Nordic country should apply to join NATO, without delay.
It would be a landmark decision, and Russia has already warned that it would not take the move lightly.
