This is accompaniment to one of the most popular songs by Sergei Rachmaninoff. It is based on Fyodor Tyutchev’s poem, enthusiastically announcing the arrival of spring. The piano accompaniment, written with Rachmaninoff’s unmistakably abundant and virtuosic style, rushes in torrents of arpeggios, portraying waves of cascading water while accompanying the impassioned vocal melody, which perfectly matches every image and sentiment reflected enthusiastically in the poem setting.

The images of nature in Rachmaninov's vocal works help to embody stormy, passionate feelings, therefore romances of a virtuoso nature are born, distinguished by richness of colors, brilliance and complexity of piano presentation. The romance "Spring Waters" was written in this style. It belongs to the lyrical-landscape works and represents the musical picture of the Russian spring.
