On Tuesday, February 19, 2008 a full-scale smoke control system demonstration was conducted in a newly-constructed 250,000 square foot furniture warehouse in Schertz, Texas. The SFPE Austin-San Antonio chapter event included an overview of several smoke control system design tools, a description of the project, and the full-scale demonstration.
The vents that you see in the middle of the roof are set to operate during a fire to control fire spread and so that firefighters can attack the fire with a less obstructed view. The building was filled with test smoke for 3 minutes and the vents were then opened and activated.
