Partial open, along with a pre-show tease and topical, from the Augusta, Georgia ABC affiliate recorded on Sunday, January 8, 1995. At the time, the station was owned by Spartan Broadcasting out of Spartanburg, South Carolina and used a logo style and "NewsChannel" branding that was common on all of their stations. In 2000, Media General bought out Spartan, and MG was bought out by Nexstar in 2017, who owns them now.
This clip is not mine; it was submitted to me by my good friend Joey. He also sent this description along, so I'll let him take it from here:
"These are rare clips I just recently stumbled upon from an old VHS tape, rare as in there are very little traces of any video from an Augusta station from the 1990s anywhere on the internet. This is also a rare recording from the station's 'Spartan Broadcasting' days, a good 5 years before the station and its sisters were purchased by Media General.
"News music is Prime News by Newsmusic Central [Jim: and Mike Lewis is the voiceover].
"The video features an 11pm topical (during an episode of America's Funniest Home Videos), and 11pm weather tease, and then the full 11pm news open. The tape abruptly cuts off about half a minute after the open, as it was taped over. The video features Paul Herdtner (last at WDAF-TV) and the late Michelle Lima [Jim: who later went to KSAT in my market of San Antonio]. The open montage has a brief shot of former mayor Bob Young at the anchor desk when he was weeknight anchor in the 1990s and features current anchor Dee Griffin during her first tenure at the station when she was a reporter. Also the Meteorologist is Jeff Day, last with News 13 in Orlando."
Thanks to Joey for this clip and look back at WJBF in the 90s!
