Why pick a Mazda powered by its new SkyActiv-X engine over a regular 2.5? It’s like asking why pay extra for a hybrid powertrain over a regular one. It’s a question we can’t really answer if you’re measuring the benefit as a purely cost-focused issue. So, there needs to be some emotional aspiration, plus a sense of value in better CO2 emissions, and a desire to want the latest and greatest in engine technology from the Japanese brand.

We look forward to having a much longer stint with the SkyActiv X engine when it arrives in Australia towards the end of this year.
