The Level 3 Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship went live on 13 June 2018. Since that time, over 1,000 apprentices have taken this recognised professional and vocational qualification, one that was built by the payroll profession specifically for the payroll profession. This, and the fact that employers can use Apprenticeship Levy funds (or opt for UK Government co-investment), makes this different from any other payroll qualification.
In 2018, as Trailblazer Chair, Ian Holloway committed to review the apprenticeship after three years. In that regard, over the last 12 months, Ian has been working with the payroll Trailblazer Group to update the apprenticeship and reforming it based on industry, apprentice, and employer feedback. After all, the payroll landscape in 2022 has changed from that in 2018 and we have the benefit of learning from experience.
Ian discusses the planned reforms where he is asking for the wider industry to engage in a consultation on the changes. This will ensure that the apprenticeship truly remains one that is built by the profession, specifically for the profession.
