Each year DeShawn Shead, DB, Seattle Seahawks, hosts an annual Youth Skill Camp in his hometown of Palmdale, California. This year the free event had nearly 200 participants between the ages of 8 and 17. The camp is designed to help participants learn drills and exercises that develop speed and agility, explosiveness, hand/eye coordination, mobility, body control and footwork; skills that help young athletes take their game to the next level. The camp was also set up to help the kids with position specific techniques such as route concepts and defensive coverages. Campers learn quite a bit in a short amount of time and the concepts are put in practice with 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills. The goal is to give every camper the tools they need to improve their skill set over the summer so they go into next season with a head start, just like the pros!
