Stop planking like a walrus! We see this all the time. Pay attention to your lower back and pelvic position when planking. Stop jamming your vertebrae like a slinky. Yes, the vertebrae CAN move like this and there are times you may want to do that- but during a plank is not one of them.
You can maximize the plank and push-up by finding your pelvic neutral or a posterior tilt (hollow body) and getting more activation! Also focus on pressing hard into the ground to protract the shoulder blades and activate the serratus. Lastly, focus on pulling the hands and feet toward one another as though you are trying to pull the floor together beneath you.
Don’t just crank through your workouts. Practice body awareness. Not only will you get more out of your workouts, but you will also be investing in the longevity of your body. Don’t be sloppy with your movements. Move with intention and purpose!
