3 days is not enough to fully experience this gem in Bahia, but it was all I could afford. when I decided to visit Brazil a second time, I had my eyes set on Bahia. I wanted to see the place where so much African culture was still being kept alive outside of Africa. Little did I know that the region of Bahia had a lot more up its sleeves than you would immediately think.
Three or four chats down the line Tobias tells me his tales of Chapada Diamantina and that instant I knew I must see and feel this for myself. What better way to spend the last days of 2018 than being so close to nature? My 3-day hike through Chapada Diamantina reminded me how sometimes common interests does not require a common spoken language.
I will not forget how it took me 20 minutes to convey the question did you see my towel – in which case it was already too late to go back to get it but we had a good laugh when we all figured out what I had been trying to say with my broken Spanish, Portuguese and hand gestures.
The memories of this hike and the stunning landscapes truly make Chapada Diamantina a gem in Bahia
