"Our business case, I would say, is very good. We’ve decided to grow but we have decided to grow within the limits of the planet.
We’ve just concluded the last financial year, which is the best year of growth that we’ve ever had and at the same time it’s the year when we have actually moved in making IKEA much more sustainable than it was before, so as we see it, it very much goes hand in hand. We’ve decided that IKEA is about creating a better everyday life for the many people.
We are still small, we are still just at the beginning and we want to grow and develop IKEA towards the 2020’s. Obviously when we do so we would like to do it in a way, so we have a positive impact on people and the planet. And that’s the way we would like to realise the fantastic vision we have of IKEA.
Of course when you look at it that way you have to think of you business in a different way. For instance, we have decided that we would like to produce the same amount of renewable energy as the total group is consuming and we have invested in wind, we have invested in solar and by the end of this year, actually IKEA is also becoming a small, renewable energy company.
We produced 3.2TWH of our own sustainable energy the year that we have behind us and that’s pretty cool I think."
