Let's shed some light on one of BMW's largest modern-day issues; the N20/26 Timing Chain scandal. Many believe the current 7yr/70k warranty is not enough and I agree; most chain guides won't show failure until after the 70k mile mark. If not taken care of, it can be catastrophic for the engine. There are no guarantees that BMW will "goodwill" anything after the warranty is up and my service advisor has seen first-hand people come in with blown engines around 71-74k miles and BMW won't touch them unless a fat check is cut first.
