A vintage Gibson always brings warm feelings to us at The Fellowship of Acoustics, with the Slope Shoulder models bringing out the inner singer-songwriter in everyone. The Southern Jumbo was introduced in 1942 as a more luxurious version of the popular but simply designed J45. The model found its place next to the J45 and J50 in the Gibson range, and achieved fame in the guitar world mainly thanks to Hank Williams Sr.
The Southern Jumbo featured Gibson's premium woods, a 5-ply binding and split parallelogram inlays on the bound fingerboard. The typical Gibson dry woody sound character is of course unmistakable and only found in old Gibson guitars. Warm and soft when played lightly, it can also deliver plenty of punch and projection with a firm strike. Perfect for all types of flatpicking and rhythm guitar playing!
