Positive Psychology extended the understanding of ‘learned helplessness’. Early research in this field on learned helplessness showed that just a bad or traumatic event in itself does not create the condition of helplessness. The crucial factor in this condition is the belief that ‘the trauma is inescapable’.
In learned helplessness, a person has learned that when bad things happen, nothing they do matters. So they give up trying to change the condition and remain passive, even after when the condition have changed. However they fail to realize that now they could control over the situation.
This condition can viewed in our day to day lives in professional and personal context both. Our few common statements are the signs of this…‘I am very busy’ or ‘I do not have time’, ‘Nothing can be changed (in my life or in this system)’ and so on…
