Catalyst's combat isn't "perfect", I dare say it isn't even "great", but I think it services and meshes well with the parkour and running way more than most might think. I think if they made a super deep combat system for a game like this it would have been at odds with the parkour, and so they made something simple yet persuaded you to keep up your flow.
I mean, the game literally has a mechanic that grants you a shield from enemy damage for keeping up good flow, and the game teaches you different parkour attacks at the start of the game, I think DICE knew what they were doing lmao
I'm fresh off replaying the original game and finally playing Catalyst for the first time feels good. I really like both games and think they each excel at similar *and* different things. Of course not everything is perfect, Catalyst's skill tree feels a bit phoned in, and the story has some rough edges (it's a Mirror's Edge game so it could only go up from the original's, in my opinion) but I'm genuinely having some good fun with this one so far. Glad I gave it a fair shot.
